Understanding Your Heart: A Guide to Cardiology Check-ups
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death globally, yet many of the risk factors that drive it are both detectable and preventable. A routine cardiology check-up goes far beyond taking your blood pressure — it builds a full picture of your cardiovascular health so your doctor can act before symptoms ever appear.
During a standard assessment at Ark Medical Centre, you can expect an electrocardiogram (ECG) to record the electrical activity of your heart, a lipid panel to measure cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and a resting echocardiogram if your doctor suspects any structural abnormality. For patients over 40 or those with a family history of heart disease, a treadmill stress test may also be recommended.
Common risk factors our cardiologists screen for include hypertension, elevated LDL cholesterol, Type 2 diabetes, obesity, and smoking. Many patients are surprised to learn that chronic stress and poor sleep quality are now considered independent cardiovascular risk factors — something our team discusses during every consultation.
If you have not had a cardiac check-up in the past two years, or if you experience shortness of breath, chest tightness, or unusual fatigue during everyday activities, we encourage you to book an appointment. Early detection is the single most effective tool we have.
